Occlusal Adjustments

The term occlusal adjustment refers to the shaping and adjusting of the biting surfaces. You may need an occlusal adjustment if your teeth do not fit together in an optimal way, which can lead to tooth damage and significant discomfort. The following signs and symptoms may signal that you need an occlusal adjustment:

  • Chronic jaw pain, including jaw pain when you awake

  • The feeling that you occasionally have bites that are lopsided or “off” when eating

  • Excessive or uneven tooth wear

  • Chipped, cracked, or worn down teeth

  • Frequent headaches

  • Loose or shifting teeth
